TikTok Users Love Edibles

While traditional smoking methods remain the most popular among TikTok, Instagram and Facebook users alike, cannabis edibles are gaining traction.

Data from from Pittsburgh-based market research firm CivicScience reveals the cannabis methods that different social media users prefer.

According to the survey, weighted by U.S. adults ages 21 and older, TikTok users are the most likely to report that they prefer edibles over other methods of using cannabis, compared with Instagram users and Facebook users.

In fact, nearly a third of TikTok users prefer cannabis edibles (26%), not far behind vaporizing (29%).

Still, traditional smoking methods are the most popular among all three groups. Thirty-seven percent of TikTok users prefer traditional methods, compared with 47% of Facebook users and half (50%) of Instagram users.

John Dick, founder and CEO of CivicScience, noted the high level of support for legal cannabis, even across party lines.

“Pretty much everyone supports legalized weed at this point, and TikTok users love edibles,” he said. “A study we published on Tuesday for no particular reason found that nearly 70% of Americans now believe recreational herb should be legit, including 51% of political Conservatives, which is noteworthy.”

While TikTok users, of course, skew younger, Dick clarifies that does not mean younger consumers prefer edible cannabis.

“No, that’s not a pure age proxy,” he said. “Younger people, on balance, are actually less likely to prefer eating their weed. It’s just the TikTok users for some reason.”
